Web 3.0 has been the talk of the town lately. Which is the next generation of WWW (World Wide Web). Which will replace the current Web 2.0. It is said that control over data in Web 3.0 will be personal rather than corporate or governmental.
In this future age of the internet, you will not need to have a separate account for different platforms. Instead, it will be the same internet account. With the help of which you can use Facebook, Twitter, Google, online shopping, etc.
Your online activity will also be listed on the same digital backbone, which supports cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Blockchain. On the positive side, no centralized power can control it.
Instead, the person concerned will have the right to control their own data. Web 3.0 applications are often based on a technology called Ethereum.
Understand the difference between Web 2.0 and 3.0
Since the Corona epidemic began in March 2020, online services have become an integral part of daily life. People shop, order food, watch movies, use the Internet, and buy and sell goods online.
All sites, from e-mail to the Internet to online shopping, operate in the cloud. It provides remote data storage and processing services over the Internet. Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and other cloud services are available in the market.
This means that any information shared by any user on such platforms is stored on the cloud service provider's server and data center. This version of the Internet is called Web 2.0.
Which we are currently using. Now let's talk about Web 3.0, which is the next generation of the Web. Where services will operate on blockchain technology. Let's compare Web 2.0 and 3.0 here.
Where cloud platforms or built-in infrastructure build the foundation for Web 2.0, all services in Web 3.0 are built on blockchain. The main difference between the two is that the cloud is controlled by companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft.
Which tends to be centralized. But in Web 3.0, the Internet is decentralized through blockchain technology. Which tends to operate on public blockchains. Which is currently used for cryptocurrency transactions.
It will be different from centralized internet i.e. web 2.0. Where top companies like Meta, Google, Amazon, Apple are keeping a lot of user data. Web 3.0 is important for cryptocurrency.
But Web 3.0 is not limited to this. The best example of this is NFT (non-fungible token). Which is purchased using crypto coins.
How is the change?
Before understanding why Web 3.0 is important, it is important to remember the purpose of the current version of the Internet, Web 2.0. Which has been running since 1990. Web 1.0 started with a static personal web page.
At the beginning of the last decade of the last century, the Internet was new to all people. During that time there were many static pages on the Internet. There was not much possibility of conversation and interaction.
Then after 2000 came Web 2.0 and with it came big companies like Meta (Facebook), YouTube, Amazon. This is the period when users create Internet content.
Users unknowingly search for videos and pictures. Buy or sell or upload any content online. This way a lot of internet content and data is created.
All of this data is stored on the servers of companies that help people interact with each other. This means that the middlemen themselves became the custodians of the user's data and began to use it to their advantage through advertising.
According to State Counter, Meta's (Facebook) market share on the Internet is 72 percent. The more time it takes to create content, the more data companies can collect. This will help them strengthen their AI algorithms and Ad engines.
This is the main source of income for such companies. Web 2.0 has caused problems such as privacy and intellectual property theft. But now with Web 3.0, this kind of problem is expected to be solved.
In today's world of the internet copying and posting content is commonplace. When Casey Newton, an American technology journalist, analyzed the top 19 most viewed posts, only four were found to be original.
While the rest of the intellectual theft was proven. Web 3.0 is said to help solve this problem. Some limited companies now control the Internet. But now the new Web 3.0 will have new Internet networks, search engines, etc., which will not be controlled by such companies.
